A sustainable destination
The tourism and development model of the Biosphere Reserve of La Siberia can only be understood by ensuring the sustainability of economic activities that fix population in our territory. With the help of Soy Ecoturista, the Ecotourism product club of Spain, up to 30 companies in the tourism and agri-food sectors are currently working towards better environmental management, with their products being recognized under the La Siberia Biosphere Reserve Brand.
The Biosphere Reserve of La Siberia has the recognition of being the first in the province of Badajoz. It began its journey in 2014, through the Center for Rural Development 'La Siberia' which, being aware of the socio-economic model of the territory, based on a traditional agri-food production that has wisely preserved the landscape, and aware of the difficulty that the region is facing. The Center, being aware of the socioeconomic model of the territory, based on a traditional agri-food production that has wisely preserved the landscape, and aware of the difficulties that the rural world is going through as a result of depopulation, found in this UNESCO recognition the strategy that would most wisely adapt to the requirements and needs of La Siberia.
It then began a careful and conscientious work of dissemination of the potential of the values of the territory among the various agents that make it up, with the task of uniting all parties to achieve a common goal: To achieve the declaration of La Siberia Biosphere Reserve in 2019 under the commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness of the territory, so that it would be possible to start working from within to become a reference destination in nature tourism, making itself known beyond the borders of the Extremadura region.
In recent months, up to 15 companies in the tourism sector that operate in the La Siberia Biosphere Reserve have been certified with the 'La Siberia Biosphere Reserve (LSRB) Mark. This has required a process of training and individualized advice, as well as a commitment to sustainability that has had to be assumed by each of the companies .
All of this is aimed at working towards better environmental management, thus contributing to theconservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the territory, as well as to its local development. This distinction facilitates the participation of companies in promotional activities and support for the marketing of authentic ecotourism experiences under the Soy Ecoturista brand, and contributes to improving the management and visibility of the product at the destination.
All this allows the traveler to access activities of flora and fauna observation in nature, hiking or becoming a beekeeper for a day with the guarantee that, through the enjoyment of these ecotourism experiences, contributes to the conservation of the natural environment in which they take place.
The Brand 'La Siberia Biosphere Reserve' (LSRB) was created with the aim of preserving the traditional agricultural and livestock production model of the region without altering the environmental and cultural integrity of the territory, while promoting a tourism strategy that is attractive to visitors and extols the ancestral values that have remained intact to the present day.
We continue to work on the creation of new products and experiences fully certified in Ecotourism, always ensuring the promotion and dissemination of local resources and the social economy of the territory.
