A natural treasure in the Cantabrian Mountains

A natural treasure in the Cantabrian Mountains

The Montaña Oriental SACis located at the eastern end of the Cantabrian Mountain Range, covering the headwaters of the Pas, Miera and Asón rivers, and integrating the massifs of Castro Valnera, Alto Asón and Sierra de Hornijo.

It is the highest mountain massif of the eastern Cantabrian, with a varied geology that includes terrigenous and calcareous soils.

This area is home to the Collados del Asón Natural Park, an area of great natural and ecological value where you can enjoy the beauty of different types of landscapes, as well as a great variety of ecosystems, flora and fauna.

In this landscape of great natural wealth, its limestone cliffs stand out, where species of birds of prey such as the golden eagle, Egyptian vulture, griffon vulture and eagle owl nest. The karst formations covered with scrub and sclerophyllous forests are home to subway cave systems. In addition, this protected area has an important diversity of habitats, including heathlands, scrublands and riparian forests, essential for the conservation of species such as the flying deer, the desman and various horseshoe bats.

In the area, there is also the Centro de Interpretación del Parque Natural de los Collados del Asón y Montaña Oriental, located in Barrio La Gándara, Lavín de Soba, which offers resources to learn more about this valuable ecosystem....
