The ZEC Dunas del Puntal and Miera Estuary is located on the coast of Cantabria, covering areas of the municipalities of Marina de Cudeyo and Ribamontán al Mar.This unique environment includes the dunes of El Puntal in Somo-Loredo, the mouth of the Miera river in the Cubas river and the islands of Mouro and Santa Marina.
This area, part of the Red Natura 2000, stands out for its high ecological value;It is home to habitats of community interest such as mobile and fixed dunes, sandbanks covered by shallow marine waters, initial marshes and coastal heaths. The area is also home to a number of protected species, such as the osprey, which uses this environment as a resting and feeding area.
In addition to its natural wealth, the area offers opportunities for ecotourism, such as guided walking and boat tours designed to interpret and respect the environment. These activities promote conservation through environmental awareness and allocate part of their income to local projects, such as the recovery of emblematic species. Initiatives such as these seek to maintain a balance between responsible tourism and the preservation of the unique ecosystems that are part of this protected area.
