DUNES OF THE PUNTAL AND ESTUARY OF THE MIERA RIVER

A natural sanctuary where biodiversity and the sea embrace each other

Puntal Dunes and Miera Estuary ZEC

The area designated as Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Dunas del Puntal and Miera Estuary encompasses several natural areas on the coast of Cantabria, specifically in the municipalities of Marina de Cudeyo and Ribamontán al Mar.

This unique environment is integrated by the dunes of El Puntal in Somo-Loredo, the mouth of the Miera River through the Cubas estuary, as well as the islands of Mouro and Santa Marina.

Within this landscape of great value, there are various habitats of interest, such as stable and mobile dunes, areas of sandbanks constantly covered by shallow sea water, the initial vegetation of the marshes and coastal heaths.
