But we also have important micro-reserves of orchids, subway habitats due to the presence of limestone or a sea of forests and native scrubland where the brown bear recovers its territory.
In addition, due to its historical isolation, this territory also preserves a rich cultural and ethnographic heritage linked to the work of local resources.
The territory of the Courel Mountains Geopark is composed, from north to south, by the municipalities of Folgoso do Courel, Quiroga and Ribas de Sil, included in its entirety in the Biosphere Reserve Ribeira Sacra e Serras de Oribio e Coureland a good part also within the Natura 2000 Network (ZEC Ancares - Courel).
