The Biosphere Reserve Os Ancares Lucenses e Montes de Cervantes, Navia e Becerreá treasure a unique mosaic of natural habitats. It is an Atlantic area of high and medium mountains in which the presence of important forest masses (oak, birch and chestnut trees accompanied by hazelnut, oak, rowan, maple, yew and holly trees) together with scrubland areas such as dry heaths and pyralnales stands out.
This variety of habitats is home to an abundant diversity of flora and fauna, such as daffodils, crayfish, and species in serious danger of extinction, such as the brown bear or the golden eagle.
From the cultural richness of the territory we can deduce the passage of different civilizations since prehistoric times, with the set of burial mounds and megalithic chambers. Subsequently, the legacy of Romanization will refer us to the Castro de Santa María de Cervantes and the Roman Road XIX. From the Middle Ages there are also imposing remains such as the castle of Doiras.
The most remarkable feature of the historical and cultural heritage is the palloza, one of the oldest forms of habitation in Europe.
