Within an area of more than one thousand square kilometers, the "Territorio Sierra Espuña", certified with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, now offers travelers a complete and varied ecotourism proposal around Sierra Espuña and a dozen other areas of the region.a and another ten natural areas surrounding it (including Special Protection Areas for Birds, Sites of Geological Interest, Protected Landscapes, Sites of Community Interest and Natural Monuments), which cover almost 40% of the protected area.

European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS)

The "Territorio Sierra Espuña" has had the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS) since 2012 and is the only Protected Natural Area in the Region of Murcia with this distinction.

 

More than 30 local public and private actors work voluntarily around the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism of Sierra Espuña, developing and implementing local plans and strategies in a participatory manner in favor of sustainable tourism and respectful of natural values and cultural heritage.

 

Currently, 18 tourism service companies are members of CETS and actively collaborate in promoting sustainable tourism in the area. This is an additional effort to make visitors aware of the importance of combining appropriate environmental behavior with the enjoyment of a quality experience in a privileged environment.

 

These establishments not only assume the commitment to carry out environmental improvement initiatives in their activity, but also support traditional economic activities, are committed to improving the quality of local life, encourage collaborative work and the joint promotion of a sustainable and quality tourist destination in the "Territorio Sierra Espuña".

Sierra Espuña has been a member of the Spanish Ecotourism Association since its foundation, together with public and private entities from all over the country committed to conservation and local development and to promoting sustainable tourism in protected areas.
 
Since 2012 it is part of the Ecotourism Product Club of Spain, created by the Secretary of State for Tourism to promote responsible tourism destinations associated with the values of protected natural areas to know them, interpret them, enjoy them and tour them, while contributing to their conservation and improving the living conditions of the local population.

Integral System of Tourism Quality in Destinations (SICTED). Commitment to Tourism Quality.

The Sierra Espuña Territory is integrated in the Spanish Tourism Quality Integral System in Destinations.
 
A project to improve the quality of tourist destinations promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism, with the support of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), which works with tourism companies and services of up to 33 different trades, with the aim of improving the experience and satisfaction of visitors.

Network of Intelligent Tourism Destinations (DTI)
