Gernika-Lumo and Bermeo host the museums of Urdaibai. Exhibitions linked to the history of this land and the symbolism of the municipalities that host them.
It is a thematic museum dedicated to the culture of peace and human rights. The origin of the museum is in the fateful bombing suffered by the town of Gernika-Lumo in 1937. The reconstruction, in forgiveness and peace, resulted in this museum. Interactive and with activities for a varied public, your visit will not leave you indifferent.
It is a museum to learn about the cultural, political and historical history of Euskal Herria. It is in Gernika-Lumo, next to the Casa de Juntas and the Tree of Gernika, and is located in the baroque palace of Alegria. A museum created by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia to show the historical-political-cultural significance of the foral environment in which it is located and to explain the characteristics of the spiritual community that Euskal Herria is made up of.
The historic Ercilla Tower, declared a National Monument in 1943, has housed the rooms of the Arrantzaleen Museoa since 1948. Here you will share and understand the life and work of the Basque fishermen. The Museum describes their life and customs, the boats that have been used and the techniques they have employed over time for fishing and fish marketing. We can also learn about the history of the Auxiliary Navy of Euzkadi, whose main nucleus was formed by Basque fishermen, and there is also a space dedicated to the history of the tower of Ercilla, a building from the last period of the fifteenth century, purely urban and commercial, and the site of an illustrious family of merchants.
