Self-guided tours

The Garrotxa region is one of the territories of Catalonia with more Romanesque buildings.

Many of these buildings are small hermitages scattered throughout the territory and located in strategic places: mountain tops, valley bottoms, volcanic cones, cliffs and cliffs.

Access to many hermitages is by historic roads that formerly linked them to nearby villages or to the most important farmhouses in the region. Some of these paths are still well preserved and hide small bridges and fresh water fountains that accompanied them.

The corners of the Vall de Bianya are the shelter of up to 16 Romanesque hermitages. A valley floor with crops and pasture meadows, accompanied by clippings of oak forests carvallo, with many scattered farmhouses, configures the current landscape, the result of an intense history.

On the other hand, the hermitages of the vall del Corb, next to the Fageda d'en Jordà (beech forest) and the ancient lava flows, have been writing the history of the territory for centuries.

Departure from the accommodation with a transfer to the valley of Bianya.
In the middle of the Garrochino territory, but linked to the Ripollès by the Roman road of Capsacosta (Via Annia), we find the valley of Bianya.

Only within the valley itself we find up to seven ancient parishes that in the past were one of the social and cultural engines of the people of the valley.

The route links four of these hermitages and then climbs the mountain range of Sant Miquel del Mont to reach the highest point of the day's excursion, which is the hermitage that gives its name to the whole mountain range. The panoramic views from this point are magnificent.

The last part of the route will be a pleasant descent to the town of Olot.

Apart from the hermitages visited, we can enjoy an itinerary in nature that passes through forests of oaks and oaks and crosses streams and streams fed by different sources of good and fresh water.

After a first steep but short climb, we reach the Racó volcano that offers good views of much of the valley of Bas and the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of the Garrotxa.

A pleasant path will take us to the hermitages of Corb: Sant Miquel and Sant Martí, true pictures of the landscape of the Garrotxa.
