Ecotourist Commitment

Territory for sustainability

Natural Park

Redes was named a Natural Park in 1996, with the aim of preserving its natural and cultural heritage. Since then, the territory's protection figures have been increasing, as has its commitment to ecotourism, which its inhabitants and businesses have been able to transform into a way of life.

Redes was named Natural Park in 1996, becoming the second Asturian space cataloged with this figure of protection. Its main objective is the conservation of its natural and cultural heritage.

Subsequently, in 2001, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve, thus ratifying the commitment of the territory with the balance between conservation and economic development.

Over the years, the commitment to ecotourism has become a way of life in Redes. The companies that are members of the ecotourism club work hand in hand with the Natural Park in the development of a tourism model that turns the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage into an engine of economic development.

The secret: to transform it, through interpretation, into an unforgettable experience for tourists who are sensitive to the environment that welcomes them.

The almost 400 square kilometers that form the Natural Park of Redes, Biosphere Reserve, also accumulate other figures of protection, which guarantee the preservation of our landscapes and the diversity of flora and fauna.

At European level, it is included in the Natura 2000 Network, being considered a Site of Community Importance (SCI), as it has been declared a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA).

Three sites of high landscape and natural value have been declared Natural Monuments:

- La Ruta del Alba

- The Tabayón del Mongayu

- The Devoyu Cave

Since 2011, the Natural Park and other entities of the territory have promoted initiatives to promote sustainable tourism that would value and help protect the biodiversity and way of life of Redes, with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism and the Biosphere Reserves of Asturias product, developing actions and tourism proposals that respect the environment.

With these initiatives as a basis and trajectory, finally in 2022, with support from the Principality of Asturias, in destination and a selection of companies have joined Soy Ecoturista, meeting the requirements of sustainability, and contribution to conservation and local development necessary. The Redes Natural Association is in charge of collaborating with the Natural Park and the entities of the territory to maintain this adhesion.

Our commitment to ecotourism translates into the promotion of responsible tourism practices, promoting activities that respect the integrity of the ecosystem and encouraging environmental education among visitors, tourists and inhabitants of the Natural Park.
