How to get to and around La Garrotxa

To get to La Garrotxa from the center of the Iberian Peninsula, we recommend taking the train to the nearest high-speed train station: Girona, and from there to La Garrotxa by bus. There are also buses from Barcelona and from other nearby towns where the train arrives, such as Vic or Figueres.

How to get to and around

New descriptionTo move within the Garrotxa in a sustainable way there are three main options: on foot through the numerous marked trails, by bicycle following the various routes suitable for this way, or by bus through the many lines that connect Olot, the capital of the Garrotxa, with almost all the villages of the region. It is important to note the existence of a line called Rumbus, with schedules, prices and service ideal for visiting the central area of the Natural Park.

Where to get information

In La Garrotxa there are three information centers of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park and numerous tourist offices, one of them, the one in Olot, accredited with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.

Lodging, restaurants and activities

La Garrotxa offers a wide range of accommodation, restaurants and ecotourism activities, from rural houses to tree cabins, from restaurants where you can taste the most traditional gastronomy to market cuisine restaurants, hiking guides, cow farms, hot-air balloon flight companies?

Recommendations and visiting rules

It is important to check if it is necessary to make reservations in advance to access or park in the natural area you want to visit, and to make them in advance and, depending on the activity to be performed or the place you want to access, check if it will be necessary to obtain any special authorization. We recommend preparing the routes in advance, being accompanied by a guide, checking the weather forecast, being well equipped, not lighting fires and following the marked trails. It is also important to respect private property, not to disturb the animals, not to play music or shout, to drive with caution -never off-road or cross-country-, to keep dogs on a leash and to pick up their droppings, and not to collect rocks, minerals or plants.
