Ecotourist Commitment

Living and Sustainable Nature

Committed to Local Development

In 2015 the Ambroz Valley launched a study to analyze the tourist sustainability of the destination, the result of this work was a strategy that has been incorporated into the Participatory Local Development Strategy (EDLP) that the Association for the Integral Development of the Ambroz Valley (DIVA) implements with funds from the LEADER program of the European Union.

As a result of this strategy, at the initiative of the Association of Tourist Entrepreneurs of the Ambroz Valley (ATUVA), the Ambroz Valley began in 2021 the process of incorporation into Soy Ecoturista (Ecotourism product club in Spain), using the audit system managed by the club itself, which involved meeting certain requirements both by the destination and by the companies. It is finally incorporated in 2022 with a total of 11 companies that assume commitments to sustainability, nature conservation and support for local development, offering authentic Ecotourism experiences. Since then, the destination continues to work and there are already 15 companies adhering to Soy Ecoturista.

The Ambroz Valley was the winner in the category Health and Wellness Tourism (2019) within the EDEN (European Destinations of Excellence) initiative, a recognition that promotes sustainable tourism development models in the European Union. It is convened every two years by the European Commission and focuses on a particular approach, always under the premise of being places that are in their early stages of tourism development

Under the label of habitable biodiversity, this destination stands out for the sustainable management of its magnificent natural and cultural resources.

The Magic Autumn in the Ambroz Valley is a Festival of National Tourist Interest organized by the Local Action Group with a strong environmental content. Projects have been carried out such as the recovery of spaces affected by a fire, the enhancement and protection of a singular tree, the reforestation with native species of a section of the Vía de la Plata or the enhancement of the Pozo de la Nieve de La Garganta, among others. The Magic Autumn is a complex project, which includes activities during six weekends around the month of November and stands out for being very participative. All the associations and collectives of the territory turn to make each edition possible. In 2018 it was a finalist in the European Natura 2000 Awards within the category of socioeconomic benefits.

The Ambroz Valley participates in the Ambroz Cáparra Tourism Sustainability Plan, one of whose objectives is to implement an environmental sustainability brand in the territory . As a result of this plan, the number of companies adhered to the Ecotourism Club in the Ambroz Valley is increasing and the neighboring region of Cáparra has also been involved.
