Collaboration and commitment to sustainability

El Maestrazgo, a certified ecotourism destination

The uniqueness and charm of our areas lies, to a large extent, in their high degree of conservation. The Maestrazgo is an isolated territory, with a rugged and at the same time spectacular orography, which has managed to preserve its attractions thanks to this condition.

Through the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS), certification held by the Natural Monuments and the Maestrazgo Region since 2018, the aim is to give visibility and enhance as a nature destination this unique corner of Teruel from a perspective of conscious and responsible tourism, in order to protect and continue to enjoy its idiosyncrasies in a sustainable way.

The European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas (CETS) is a certification granted by the EUROPARC Federation and a working tool that allows public-private institutions linked to tourism and the environment in Maestrazgo to work together to promote the territory in a responsible way, promoting the conservation of natural areas, as well as encouraging tourism. The European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas (CETS) is a certification granted by the EUROPARC Federation and a working tool that allows public-private institutions linked to tourism and the environment in Maestrazgo to work together to promote the territory in a responsible manner, promoting the conservation of natural areas and encouraging quality tourism through various actions linked to strategic objectives defined by and for the territory. In 2023, a further step was taken thanks to the involvement of the private sector, implementing Phase II, with the adhesion to the Charter of several companies and tourist establishments committed to the philosophy of the CETS.

The fact that the destination and its companies have this sustainability certification has allowed Maestrazgo as a destination and its certified companies to become part of Soy Ecoturista from 2023, in line with its objectives of promoting tourism that benefits conservation and local development.
