Practical tips for your ecotourism trip

Organizing a trip to the Sierra del Segura is easy, but it's a good idea to keep a few recommendations in mind to enjoy it to the fullest. It's a large region, made up of 12 municipalities and numerous villages, where time seems to pass differently. Planning helps, but it's best to leave room for improvisation and discovery, because there will always be an unexpected corner that will surprise the traveler.

- How to get there and get around. The Sierra del Segura is located in the southernmost part of the province of Albacete, bordering Jaén, Granada, and Murcia. Although it is well connected by road, there are no highways that cross it: that is part of its charm. It is best to travel by car, either your own or a rental, which allows you to move freely between villages, viewpoints, and trails.

- Climate and best time to visit. Each season offers a different reason to travel. In spring, the almond trees in bloom and the green fields are a feast for the eyes, and the mild climate is ideal for hiking. In summer, the rivers, pools and natural swimming holes become cool refuges; moreover, the nights are ideal for stargazing thanks to the skies free of light pollution. Autumn is the time for mushrooms, deer rutting and traditional fairs such as the Walnut Fair in Nerpio. Winter, on the other hand, paints the highest limestone cliffs white and offers landscapes of snow and silence.

- What to bring. Good hiking shoes, comfortable clothing suitable for the season, sunscreen, and, in summer, a swimsuit to enjoy the pools are essential. Binoculars are very useful, both for bird watching and for astro-tourism. Your camera will be your greatest ally: the landscapes are worth remembering.

- Traveling with the family. The Sierra del Segura is perfect for traveling with children. There are short and easy routes along the rivers, astronomical observatories, and interpretation centers that make learning fun. The villages are quiet and safe, ideal for a family vacation.
The Sierra del Segura is, in short, a destination for conscious and curious travelers. You don't have to see everything in one trip: there will always be a reason to return, whether it's a landscape, a traditional festival, or simply the desire to reconnect with the hospitality of its people.
