Sálvora, Cortegada, Cíes and Ons
You should anticipate and organize the visit in advance because the islands have limited visitors and it is necessary to have the authorization of the regional government to visit Cíes and Ons in high season (Easter week and from May 15 to September 15). In the case of Sálvora and Cortegada during the whole year, or in the case of Cíes and Ons in low season (rest of the year), it will be the transport companies that will manage the authorizations of their groups of visitors and they will have to carry out a guided activity during the visit.
The access changes according to the destination island. In each case we must access different ports of the estuary where each island is located. The park's website (https://illasatlanticas.gal) provides information on the companies authorized to transport visitors to each island.
The services in each also vary. It is only possible to spend the night in Cíes and Ons, where there are hotel and catering services, although their activity varies according to the time of year. Sálvora and Cortegada do not have any overnight or hotel facilities, so visits are limited in time during the day.
The park has a visitor center in the city of Vigo, equipped with an exhibition on its natural and cultural values. This center is a good option for previewing and obtaining personalized information.
With these particular conditions of each island you must previously organize the needs for the visit:
- Visiting hours: transport companies vary their schedules for access to the islands depending on the time of year or the management of the group they arrange. It is necessary to contact them (through the different means they offer) to access this information.
-Water and food: there is no water with sanitary guarantee on the islands, and the catering services in Cies and Ons vary during the year.
-Clothing: we recommend a coat in any case, as the boat transfers are cool, and in the islands the wind or a change of weather may make it necessary to wear a coat. It is necessary to wear a hat and use sunscreen for sunny moments.
- Medical assistance: There is only in Cíes and Ons, during the summer season and with limited opening hours. In other situations, assistance depends on the 112 service.
- Public toilets: All the islands have public toilets.
- Information service: on Cíes and Ons there are information personnel and interpreter guides in high season. On the other islands it is the surveillance service who covers the information needs of the visitor.
- Check the weather forecast before entering the islands. This will determine the conditions and the time you plan to visit.
