Truffle Tourism and Mushroom Tourism

Local ecotourism companies offer activities focused on the fascinating world of black truffles, including guided tours of wild truffle harvesting sites in the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park and truffle plantations of oak and holm oak trees, demonstrations of truffle hunting with trained dogs, explanations to uncover all the secrets of truffle cultivation, management practices and techniques, resource sustainability, interesting facts, and tastings of truffle-infused dishes at various local restaurants. Nature interpretation workshops are also organized to learn about the fungi and mushrooms of the Serranía de Cuenca, a region with an incredibly rich mycological heritage.

Astronomical Observation

The attractions of the Serranía de Cuenca do not fade when the sun goes down; that is when another facet of its unique beauty is revealed: its pristine skies. The Serranía de Cuenca is not only a Starlight destination but also a leader in national astro-tourism thanks to its ambitious project: the Serranía de Cuenca Astronomical Park. This initiative, which brings together 30 municipalities, not only certifies the extraordinary quality of its night sky but also creates a network of infrastructure and strategically placed observation points to facilitate stargazing. Furthermore, as a protected area, the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park guarantees an environment free of light pollution.

Visit the astro-tourism website to learn about astronomical observation activities: https://astroclm.com/venue/serrania-de-cuenca/

Hiking in the Serranía de Cuenca

The Serranía de Cuenca region is crisscrossed by an extensive network of trails and paths. One of the most beautiful routes is the Júcar Nature Trail, which follows the river’s course from its source—in the heart of the mountain range—to its mouth, crossing much of the region and forming part of other routes. In addition, there are dozens of short trails that allow you to visit and lose yourself in the mountain range’s most iconic spots, as well as discover some of its more secluded corners. There are routes of all difficulty levels, some challenging as they climb cliffs and peaks, and others more accessible, where you can stroll peacefully surrounded by forests and valleys. The long-distance routes offer a real challenge for the most adventurous.

The region’s most representative trails allow you to appreciate the richness of the landscape, with some focusing on specific aspects such as vegetation, topography, the action of water, and geology… To fully enjoy the trails—and ensure that others can do the same—it is essential to respect the natural environment: stay on the marked trails, do not disturb the flora and fauna, and do not leave behind any kind of waste or trash.

We also recommend participating in the guided tours offered by ecotourism companies. The guides’ interpretation of the environment is a vital tool for fully understanding and appreciating the region. At this link, you can view the various trails that run through the region, as well as their characteristics: www.senderosdecuenca.org/
