A tour through the villages of the region that highlight its natural, artistic and patrimonial wealth.
The Subbética Cordobesa includes in its interior one of the natural parks of Andalusia of greater landscape and ecological wealth. To this must be added the great archaeological, cultural and historical heritage treasured by some of the fourteen towns that make up this region located in the geographical center of the Andalusian community.
Below we have made a selection of the five essential places that you must visit in this region:
One of the places you can not miss is the Cueva de los Murciélagos de Zuheros. Located four kilometers from the town, this cave stands out for its limestone formations and spectacular karst formations. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, these galleries constitute an important Neolithic site, the first in Andalusia with Upper Paleolithic rock art.
This fountain located in the heart of the town is one of the most important tourist attractions of Priego. The Fuente del Rey underwent several transformations over the years and it was not until 1803 when its construction was completed. Designed in baroque style by Remigio del Mármol, it is divided into three elongated pools of different levels. From the fountain flow 139 spouts, some of them with stone masks of ghostly faces.
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, the Roman Villa "El Ruedo" dates from the first to the seventh centuries A.D. and has one of the most complete surfaces existing in the Iberian Peninsula. The mosaics, pavements and paintings that have been found make up a rich sculptural ensemble that can be seen in the Historical-Archaeological Museum of Almedinilla.
Those who summit the Picacho de Cabra (1,217 m), will be able to observe the Sierras Subbéticas in its fullness as well as several Andalusian provinces with the peaks of Sierra Nevada in the background. The ascent alone by a winding road is a spectacle that offers interesting geological formations such as the Lapiaz de los Lanchares.
It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It is located on top of a hill surrounded by the waters of the reservoir that bears his name, which makes it a peninsula that is joined to land also by two bridges, the Agromán and Fernandez, access routes for those who visit us from the north or south. We invite you to get lost in the streets of the neighborhood of the Villa, visit the Patio de las Comedias and practice water sports, hiking or cycling around the Lake of Andalusia.
