Our planet needs us

Since 2001, the CEDER Cáparra, made up of public entities and social groups of the territory, has been developing and implementing a Regional Strategic Plan to promote sustainable development, including the tourism sector.

As the first region in all of Extremadura in which all of the town councils unanimously approved the protection of the night sky, it has assumed a firm commitment to the promotion of astro-tourism.

Since 2020, the Ambroz - Cáparra Tourism Sustainability Plan has been developed in the region, together with the Ambroz Valley, implementing numerous actions, including the adhesion in 2023 of the destination and several companies to Soy Ecoturista, thus consolidating its commitment to ecotourism.

Several entities of the territory, such as the CEDER Cáparra and the Mancomunidad Integral de Servicios de Trasierra-Tierras de Granadilla, which groups together the municipalities, in the first case also includes and participates in economic and social organizations of the territory, together with the business sector and the Cáceres Provincial Council. The latter, together with the business sector and the Cáceres Provincial Council, have been promoting for more than 20 years a sustainable tourist development that respects and values its natural and cultural heritage and puts the inhabitants at the center, fighting against depopulation.

Thus, great progress has been made in infrastructure facilities that allow to offer a type of tourism that is slow, respectful and conscious.

Trasierra- Tierras de Granadilla has positioned itself as an astro-tourism destination par excellence due to the joint work carried out by the town councils to protect the night sky and Extremadura Buenas Noches with the installation of celestial viewpoints and a tourist astronomical observatory. These actions make possible a better interpretation of the night and daytime sky.

Since 2020, the Ambroz-Cáparra Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination, promoted by the Cáceres Provincial Council in collaboration with the Government of Extremadura and the Government of Spain, has been implemented in the territory and is structured in three main lines of action: tourism governance, sustainable value proposition and sustainable marketing.

As part of this PSTD , the destination and 7 companies joined the Ecotourism in Spain product club and its Soy Ecoturista brand through its own system of requirements, making it the third destination in Extremadura to join this network of certified ecotourism destinations and companies.
