When you travel to the Natural Park of Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña and Ibias you are entering a world of ancient forests and villages anchored in time. One of the best preserved and most unknown areas of Asturias. A vast region on the borders with Galicia and León, home to the most emblematic fauna of the Cantabrian mountain range, rich in traditions and with the proverbial Asturian hospitality.
Enjoy one of the best panoramic views of Green Spain: mountains, nature and tradition to enjoy villages and towns that treasure the essence of southwestern Asturian architecture in the form of rural palaces, medieval churches, pastoral baths, magnificent granaries or water mills among vineyards, orchards and cows.
The Fuentes del Narcea region, with an area of 1,243 km2, has almost half of its territory protected by the Natural Park of Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña and Ibias, and whose extensive network of rivers vertebrate the territory in valleys with small villages and large houses that are a true reflection of Asturian rural life in recent centuries.
Naviego River Valley: from the vigorous village of Cangas del Nacea to the roof of the region, the Cuetu d'Arbas, this valley opens its way through areas of vineyards (San Tisu, Las Barzaniellas and L.lumés) and as we gain altitude the valley opens up and the villages and farmland multiply, which at higher altitudes give way to the brañas in the mountains. Enjoy the landscape from La Chabola, Brañas d'Arriba or El Puertu Leitariegos.
If you feel like climbing, put on your boots and walk the routes of: Valle de Cibea, Leitariegos-La Chabola and the ascent to Cuetu d'Arbas peak (2,002 m.).
Cibea River Valley a narrow valley at the beginning that is gaining height and breadth and ends in the bright valley of Xinestosu. A must stop for those who enjoy hiking and Asturian gastronomy because this is the only place where the Xinestosu cheese is still made, the origin of which comes from the transhumance shepherds .
You have another perspective of the valley from the route of El Cabril.
Route of the ports (Cangas del Narcea - Ibias). Parallel to the river Coto in Cangas del Narcea travel through this intricate valley to the Puerto El Pozu de las Mul.leres Muertas to go into Ibias, a land dominated by large hills "chaos" in which the Ibias river and its villages are embedded. Stop at Seroiro or Uría with its peculiar reddish stone masonry and walk through its streets covered with pergolas on which the vineyards stand.
A small fork will take you to Riodeporcos, isolated by road, to reach it you will have to pass a suspension bridge over the tail of the Navia river reservoir. Once there, a network of pergolas supports a network of vineyards that cover almost the entire village.
Back to the route, towards San Antolin, the capital of the council retains its 13th century church and you can visit the Nature Classroom and Interpretation Center of the Palloza de San Antolin. The villages of Cecos and Lagüeiro preserve vestiges of Roman gold mining. Do not leave without taking a pleasant walk Lagüeiro, where they still have two hórreos with green roofs and the Palace of Ron surrounded by vineyards.
Nearby you have the routes: Da Hucha, Dolmen de Seroiro, El desfiladero de Bustelín, Senda del Oro, or Senda Sonora.
The Route of the Ports is completed by heading to Puerto El Connio by a winding road that goes into the Integral Natural Reserve of Muniel.los where you can not miss the Interpretation Center of Muniellos and its viewpoints.
In the surroundings you have many routes to enjoy our nature: Muniellos Route, Moal Forest, Oubachu and Pousada de Rengos.
Degaña Valley: A territory with small villages on the banks of the Ibias River; with narrow streets, picturesque and silent corners, in this gigantic glacial valley flanked by the Sierra de Degaña and the high peaks of the Cantabrian Mountains. Its mining past provides an interesting industrial heritage that coexists with old farmhouses.
Do not miss its routes that will allow you to climb to the summits and enjoy hidden lagoons: L.lagunas de L.langreiru, L.lagunas de L.lagüeños, L.lagunas de Fasguéo, Senda Moura or L.lagunas de Trabau/Sisterna or the route of the mining and industrial landscape of Zarréu.
And its viewpoints: Mirador del Oso, Mirador del Capillo or Mirador de la Corza with spectacular views.
