Maestrazgo

Historic region located in the southeast of Teruel.

The Maestrazgo, a region of Teruel bordering Castellón, is characterized by a wealth of monuments contained in small towns full of history and charm, surrounded by a diverse and surprising natural environment. Castles, small palaces, walls and remarkable buildings are intertwined with postcard landscapes, curious rock formations and natural corners of great uniqueness. Its extension and relief, combined with a low population density, makes it possible to enjoy the environment and nature in a relaxed and conscious way.


 


The natural diversity of Maestrazgo, offers a landscape of contrates, with numerous geomorphological places of interest, which has given it the status of Geopark, and a river area with great ecological value cataloged as Red Natura 2000. In addition, within its delimitation, there are four of the six Protected Natural Spaces declared as Natural Monuments within the Community of Aragon.

Nature and hiking

In addition, the network of trails that crosses the region allows you to discover and enjoy places of great beauty, being able to cross steep ravines, walk on historic roads, crown ancient fortresses or enjoy spectacular panoramic views.

Charming villages

Maestrazgo is known for its rich cultural heritage, where the evolution of history has left in its small towns a legacy still visible through constructions and unique buildings, which show the importance and power that once had the area. Many of its municipalities are listed as Historic Sites, some even declared as "Pueblo Bonito de España". All of them offer a quiet stroll through their narrow streets and small squares, where palaces, castles, dungeons or even hiding places are located.

Tradition and gastronomy

The special orography and isolation that characterizes the Maestrazgo has allowed it to preserve traditions with centuries of history, preserve customs, daily chores and maintain trades that manage to keep their authenticity intact. In the same way, its gastronomy is worthy of mention, where we find local products of excellent quality, which allow the elaboration of both traditional and innovative recipes with an exceptional flavor.
