MINING LANDSCAPES AND INDUSTRIAL TOURISM

Izki's forgotten memory

Asphalt is a relict treasure that is still alive in Montaña Alavesa and that aims to give life to this natural environment with the recovery of the old Mina Lucía from where asphalt continues to emanate thanks to its natural conditions of temperature and humidity.

Since the middle of the 19th century, several mines have been exploited, shaping the landscape of the region. For decades, the mining environment has begun to recover through various restoration initiatives. The old settlement of San Ildefonso and the enhancement of the Mina Lucía, which is now open to visitors with prior registration, stand out. Its attractions include architectural, historical, social, ethnological, landscape interpretation and traditional production processes, among others.

To immerse yourself in this mining past, do not hesitate to visit the Interpretation Center of the Vía Verde del antigua Ferrocarril del Vasco-Navarro (Green Way of the old Basque-Navarro Railway).
