We are committed to the environment and work towards sustainable tourism.
That is why we are taking measures in this direction. More information
- Protected Space and Interpreted Values The ecotourism activity takes place in the Picos de Europa National Park, a protected space of great geological, biological and cultural relevance. The route offers an in-depth interpretation of the cultural and natural landscape, highlighting the biogeography of the Atlantic mountain and the fundamental ecological processes. The local guide will focus on the historical and current relationship between humans and the natural environment, and how this interaction has shaped the landscape through traditional practices such as grazing and cheese making. Understanding these processes contributes to a greater appreciation and conservation of the area
- Minimizing Negative Impacts To minimize negative impacts, the activity follows a sustainable approach that includes low environmental impact practices. This is achieved by using established trails, avoiding sensitive areas, and restricting group sizes to reduce pressure on local ecosystems. In addition, respect for fauna and flora is encouraged, as well as for historic buildings and cultural heritage, educating visitors about the importance of their preservation.
- De-seasonalization and De-frequentation The activity is organized to promote the de-seasonalization of tourism, offering experiences throughout the year and not just in the high season. This helps to distribute the influx of visitors more evenly, reducing pressure on resources during peak periods and supporting the local economy on a more consistent basis. The route avoids the busiest tourist destinations, focusing on less frequented areas, allowing for a more authentic experience and reducing environmental impact.
- Contribution to Conservation and Local Development The activity actively contributes to biodiversity conservation through environmental education and the promotion of sustainable practices. The income generated supports conservation initiatives and local projects, directly benefiting the communities. In addition, priority is given to hiring local guides and the use of regional services and products, which strengthens the local economy and preserves traditions and ancestral knowledge.
