Plan your trip to Maestrazgo

Useful information for your visit

How to get to Maestrazgo?

El Maestrazgo is centrally located between Barcelona, Madrid, Zaragoza and Valencia. There is a public transport route that runs through the region, although given its limited schedule and frequency, it is preferable to arrive by car.

How many days do I need to visit Maestrazgo?

If you want to know the essence of Maestrazgo, enjoy the gastronomy, visit its villages and make some of its hiking trails, we recommend a minimum of 3-4 days. In this way you will be able to combine interpreted visits, stroll calmly through its natural environment, get to know its centers and enjoy some of the experiences offered in the area. Maestrazgo is made up of 16 villages, all of them with something to discover. A leisurely stroll along the roads that connect one with another is an experience in itself.

What is the best time to visit?

The Maestrazgo is beautiful in any season, although spring and autumn are times where the environment offers incredible views and where the influx of visitors is lower, allowing you to enjoy the villages and nature almost in solitude, making the experience much more satisfying.

What considerations should we take into account?

As we have already explained, the Maestrazgo is a very unpopulated area, with villages between 10 and 700 inhabitants, so our services are limited. In order to fully enjoy your getaway we recommend you to:

- Bring a full tank of gas: It is advisable to enter the area with a full tank of gas, since we only have one gas station in the region and it has limited opening hours.
- Reservation to eat: The gastronomy of Maestrazgo is delicious and is offered in small family-run restaurants. If you want to try it, it is preferable that you make reservations, as they are usually in high demand, especially on weekends.
- Bring some cash: In most towns there are no ATMs and not all establishments accept card payments (less and less).
- Ask your host what kind of coverage there is in the area or if they have wifi. In certain areas, there is not service from all operators, and may even fail in bad weather.

Guide Service?

It is not mandatory but highly recommended. Local guides can enhance your experience even more. With their explanations and knowledge of monuments, places, histories and traditions, they will turn a mere walk into a super enriching visit.
