Prepare your trip

Your journey through time

The Geopark Space

We recommend that your visit to the Sobrarbe-Pyrenees Geopark begins at the "Geopark Space", the reception center for our visitors, located in the Southeast Tower of the Castle of Ainsa, where our staff will accompany and advise you during your visit and where you can start your journey through more than 500 million years.

Under the title "A Geopark of mountains", the exhibition discourse of the Space will bring us closer to the mountains of the Geopark, both to the formation of the Pyrenees, following its geological history, and to the value they have and the relationship that humans and their inhabitants establish with them.

Once you have visited the Geopark Space, we assure you that you will see the Sobrarbe Mountains and the rocks that form them with new eyes. It will be the moment to satisfy our curiosity in the field, in the middle of nature, and immerse ourselves in the real open classroom that is the Geopark.

Our observations will provide us with answers that will comfort us, that will even allow us to better appreciate the authentic values and traditions, myths and legends that have their roots in the rocky substratum of the region, but we will also be confronted with new questions to return to the Castle? and continue the dialogue with the Geopark.

4 seasons - 365 days

The four seasons of the year are propitious to visit the Geopark, each one of them will offer you a different picture, with different lights and colors, but always great and each one with its particular charm.

In spring and autumn you can enjoy with more tranquility all the spectacular landscapes and colors of the Geopark: from the thousand greens of spring to the immense range of yellows, reds and browns that emerge in any corner of the Geopark in autumn. The swollen rivers and incredible waterfalls resulting from the spring thaw invite activities such as kayaking.

In winter the snow is present in the northern part of the Geopark to enjoy snowshoeing, ski touring or ice climbing, but it is also possible to walk trails and perform other activities in the rest of the territory, in the valleys and less exposed areas. And the summer is propitious to walk any of the trails and perform activities in the high mountains such as hiking for several days, more aquatic activities such as kayaking, canyoning, etc ... or take a swim in one of the areas equipped for this purpose.

How to get to the Geopark?

We are in the central Pyrenees, in the province of Huesca. If you have decided to arrive by car, you can access the Geopark by any of the four main entrances: from the west from the A23 and the N-260; from the south from the A22 and the A-138; from the east from the N-260 and from the north, through the Bielsa-Aragnouet cross-border tunnel. In Spain, the nearest airports are Barcelona and Zaragoza, 3 and 2 hours away respectively.

And from France, Toulouse Airport (3h. 30') and Tarbes (2h 30'). Coming by train to the stations of Lérida, Zaragoza and Huesca, and access by bus or renting a car are other options.

How to go through it?

You should keep in mind that the best option to get around once you are in our Geopark is by car and that if you do not come by car there is only the option of cab service.

We recommend that you plan your routes and distances well, since our territory is very large. To reach some places of interest or towns, you will have to drive on narrow, curvy, but well-floored mountain roads. At some point it may also be necessary to go through a forest track, some of them are conditioned for all types of vehicles.

Previously choose an accommodation that is not far from the places you want to visit, or plan to stay in different areas of the geopark to be able to visit everything and not miss anything.
