The Sabinares del Arlanza - La Yecla Natural Park is one of the most unique natural areas in Castile and León. Located in the southeastern part of the province of Burgos, it covers a vast territory that combines remarkable ecological, scenic, and cultural richness. Its name refers to two of its most iconic features: the white juniper groves—among the largest and best-preserved in Europe—and the La Yecla Gorge, an impressive canyon carved by the Mataviejas River into the limestone, whose vertical walls rise over 100 meters high in some places.

The juniper groves, consisting mainly of Spanish junipers (Juniperus thurifera), constitute an ecosystem of immense environmental and aesthetic value, where some specimens are several centuries old. This forested landscape blends with pine forests, holm oak groves, and vast areas of moorland and canyons, forming a natural mosaic of great beauty. The skies are dominated by the griffon vulture, alongside other raptors such as the golden eagle and the peregrine falcon, making the park a prime spot for birdwatching.

In addition to its natural value, the park boasts a remarkable historical and cultural heritage. Within its boundaries lie gems such as the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, the medieval town of Covarrubias, and the historic district of Lerma, which form part of the so-called Arlanza Triangle. This setting offers a perfect blend of nature, history, and rural traditions, inviting visitors to discover the most authentic essence of Burgos.
