Discovering Ponga on foot

Discovering Ponga on foot

The Ponga Natural Park offers a wide variety of hiking routes for all levels of difficulty. These options, as diverse as they are attractive, can be enjoyed all year round, with the rich landscape as a guarantee. The following is a selection of recommended routes:

Peloño Forest, from Les Bedules to Arcenorio (PR AS-181): This forest track crosses the Peloño Forest, a Partial Nature Reserve that is home to one of the best-preserved beech forests in Spain. From the parking lot of Les Bedules, which is accessed by a concrete track from the road between Beleño and Viegu, the route passes through points of interest such as the Granceno pass, the roblón de los Bustiellos and the Guaranga pass (trenches). It ends at the Arcenorio sheepfold, where there is a hermitage and several livestock cabins.

Ponga River Valley (PR AS-213): This easy and pleasant trail, about 10 km long, runs along the Ponga river valley connecting Beleño, Sobrefoz and Abiegos. The route can be extended to other villages such as Cadenaba and Tanda. Highlights include the Beleño Interpretation Center, the Ponga River Gorge and the Yano neighborhood in Sobrefoz. The circular itinerary combines wooded trails and small stretches of road, without steep slopes and perfectly signposted.

Ascent and Circular to the Tiatordos Peak (PR AS-304): This mountain route, demanding but rewarding, saves a drop of almost 1400 m to the summit of Tiatordos. On the way, it crosses places such as the Foz de La Escalada, the forest of La Bufona, and the sheepfold of Entregüe. From the Fitos, the views of the neighboring council of Caso are impressive. The route begins and ends in Taranes, and you can visit the towns of Abiegos and Tanda.

Letter carrier's Path (PR AS-282): A short 2.5 km route that combines a steep trail section to Biamón and a concreted track to Casielles. The views of the Sella river valley and the Beyos gorge are spectacular. From Casielles you can link other routes, such as Peña Salón or Foz de los Andamios.

Picu Pierzu (PR AS-211): The ascent to the Pierzu (1552 m) is accessible, with a positive difference in altitude of just over 600 m. It offers unparalleled panoramic views of Ponga, Amieva and the Picos de Europa. The route, marked with PR marks, begins at Collada Llomena.

Foz de los Andamios (PR AS-181): This route combines stretches of road and forest track, starting at La Huera bridge, in the Beyos Gorge. It ascends towards Viboli and then turns off along a cattle track towards the Granceno pass, in the Peloño forest. From there, you can link up with several routes.

Semeldón River Valley (PR AS-212): Following the course of the Semeldón River, this route takes advantage of the old logging railway line. It starts in Sellaño and reaches the Semeldón pass, with the option of turning off towards Ambingue. The return trip includes a stretch by road.

Taranes - Vallemoro (PR AS-214): This route leads to the uninhabited village of Vallemoro, one of the most visited destinations in Ponga due to its charm and isolation. From Taranes, the route follows a forest track that crosses the Taranes pass and the Llués pass before descending towards the Semeldón river valley.

Collada Granceno - Tolivia (PR AS-283): From Les Bedules, this route leads to the abandoned village of Tolivia, passing through the Granceno pass and around the Peña Sen de los Mulos. The descent culminates on the Pontón road, in the valley of the river Sella.

Peña Salón (PR AS-305): A varied and panoramic itinerary that connects localities such as Viegu, Casielles or Viboli. The route, which passes through Biamón and the Nochendi pass, offers easy access to the summit, with spectacular views of the Beyos Gorge and the Ponga mountain range.
