Discover a mine the fun way
You will be able to discover the mining activity and its important role throughout history in this area, through an interesting and fun visit.
Abandoned in 1946, the Costanaza mine remains a magnificent example of industrial architecture.
With a rich past in mining operations, it is 210 meters deep and has 14 floors. Only the two upper ones can be visited. It once produced 50% of the national phosphate production.
The guided visit allows to observe geological formations and mining works (shoring, chimneys, drilling...). The tour starts at the Phosphate Interpretation Center in the old mine laboratory, the visit continues in the powder magazine which houses a black room of fluorescent minerals and ends by going down to the mine where two galleries of the old mines are visited. Finally, we visit the Vicente Sos Baynat Geological and Mining Museum.
