ALBAOLA ITSAS KULTUR FAKTORIA

Relive the epic of the Basque whalers of the XVI century in Pasaia

At the entrance of the bay of Pasaia (Gipuzkoa) is located ALBAOLA ITSAS KULTUR FAKTORIA, a museum located in a renovated shipyard next to the old dredge Jaizkibel.
In this magical and secluded place the shipwrights build and restore traditional boats of high ethnographic and historical value.

ALBAOLA evokes the great maritime odysseys of the whalers and their ships in the New World. Therefore, more than a museum, the factory is an imaginative and open space where you can learn, in a dynamic process, the Basque maritime history through the construction before the public of a replica of one of its most famous vessels: the 16th century whaler SAN JUAN.

The construction process of the whaler can be visited here, in Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria, and it is dynamic, evolving in time with its construction phases inside an imposing wooden shed where large structural pieces are assembled.

This whole process is contextualized by a permanent exhibition based on the whaling theme and Basque maritime activity during the 16th century.

ALBAOLA completes the experience of your touristic visit by offering you the possibility to sail across the bay of Pasaia: the access can be made by sea through a maritime transport service located at the "Muelle del Hospitalillo". Park your car in the free parking lot of Trintxerpe located on the same pier and take the green boat that will start this exciting tour.
