The Passivhaus Institut has certified the eco-architectural renovation of the building based on its standard. The Europa Conference Center has achieved the Passivhaus Institut certification for an XXL project for the eco-architectural renovation of the building. This is one of the most demanding international certifications for an XXL project.
The comprehensive remodeling of the Europa Palace, with an eco-architectural renovation based on the Passivhaus standard, has made it an icon of sustainable architecture. Its thermal, acoustic and landscape conditioning model with its landscaped façade (vertical garden) also makes it a benchmark building in terms of sustainability. It has solar panels, biomass fuel, systems to control CO2 levels, temperature and humidity... to achieve spaces of maximum comfort, versatile and with a complete congress equipment.
The Planning and Projects Service of the Town Planning Department of the Vitoria City Council has been the driving force behind the Passivhaus certification for the project executed by the construction company Lurgoien. The comprehensive remodeling of the Europa Palace, with an eco-architectural reform based on the Passivhaus standard, has turned it into an icon of sustainable architecture. Its thermal, acoustic and landscape conditioning model with its landscaped façade (vertical garden) also makes it a benchmark building in terms of sustainability.
The certifying entity has highlighted the City Council's commitment to simple passive solutions: a new central skylight, solar and natural light collector, thermal insulation of 25 centimeters on the facade, 26 centimeters on the roof and 15 centimeters on the first floor. The PVC carpentry is of the Passivhaus type, with triple glazing with argon gas chamber. The building has very high performance heat recovery and very high air tightness. In addition to the passive strategies, the building has a photovoltaic installation on the roof and thus aims to approach the zero-emission energy building.
Vitoria-Gasteiz is an active city in the fight against climate change, which is why it has as its axes: working on the rehabilitation of housing in terms of energy efficiency, promoting sustainable mobility and planning a more compact city. Another challenge is to improve the consumption and emissions of energy consumed in buildings, fulfilling the international commitment of the Paris Climate Summit.
