Wellness getaway with immersion in a sustainable forest

Caserío Montehermoso, committed to sustainable tourism: - The rehabilitation of the family farmhouse has been done following bio-construction criteria. We have used lime mortar to cover the walls and we have given a new opportunity to old furniture and objects, including the access fence to the lodgings, which has been made with wood recovered from the salt mines of Salinas de Añana. - The heating of the rural complex is a mixed system of biomass (firewood) and aerothermal energy. We heat the accommodations and the water for the showers with firewood from our sustainable forests, self-produced electricity and the energy present in the air. - We have ecological outdoor SPAs, which we heat with firewood, and we reuse the water to irrigate the gardens and orchard - We use energy efficient appliances and the lighting in the apartments works with LEDs, just like the public streetlights in the village where we are located. - We provide natural and vegan amenities to our guests (shampoo, gel and conditioner) - Our rural resort is guided by waste reduction, recycling and promoting composting among our guests. - We cultivate our own seasonal organic garden and use vegetables and berries from our garden for breakfast. - We promote the environmental awareness of our young people with a sustainable traveler's diploma, which we give to those who meet the requirements we have designed to deserve this title (including not littering in the bush or even picking up other people's garbage if they find plastics, cans or glass in nature). - We use natural, ecological products without harmful chemicals for the cleaning and hygiene of the accommodations. - We promote the cultural value of our village with guided tours that we arrange with a neighbor, expert in archeology and ancient history - We promote the knowledge of the main tourist values of the valley and the Basque Country, including its gastronomic offer. - We take into account the ecological footprint of our activity and we measure every step we take by first studying how it affects our village, its inhabitants and the whole Valdegovía Valley - We are very happy when our guests integrate into the peaceful life of Valdegovía and share afternoons and chats in the garden with our neighbors. - When we need to hire freelancers we turn first to those who are closest to us and from them, to those who generate employment with decent conditions and show passion for their work - We seek alliances with other entrepreneurs who have social and environmental values and who promote projects that bring value not only to themselves but also to their surroundings. - Since September 2022 we have a 6 kWp self-consumption photovoltaic installation, which helps us reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, so we continue to take steps to reduce our carbon footprint and that of our guests.
