- The Aquila Foundation is a nonprofit organization that conducts research and conservation programs for birds of prey and their habitats, carrying out these initiatives at the Águilas de Fuente Empedrada Center (Lagartera) in the Campana de Oropesa region. The programs aim to advance biodiversity conservation, maintain genetic diversity in the Iberian imperial eagle and the Bonelli’s eagle, restore the peregrine falcon population in the Tagus River valley, the improvement of diagnostics and prevention of diseases emerging due to climate change, and the analysis of river water quality, while disseminating the research through scientific ecotourism experiences and environmental education in the Campana de Oropesa.
- The Aquila Foundation is listed in the official registry of ecotourism companies in the Community of Castile-La Mancha (No. 45014110051) and is authorized to conduct wildlife observation and photography, ecosystem interpretation, guided hiking, and environmental workshops. The Foundation offers scientific ecotourism experiences tailored to different audiences from the Águilas Center in Fuente Empedrada.
- The scientific ecotourism experiences demonstrate how work is being done to conserve birds of prey, including a visit to an aviary where participants can observe Iberian birds of prey up close, learn about the challenges they face, and understand the conservation measures in place.

Help protect the great eagles
Have you ever stood one meter away from the most powerful weightlifter on Earth? Do you know which is the smallest eagle in the world?
Discover and learn about endangered birds of prey, their secrets, and how we can help them, guided by conservation experts.
We offer a guided tour of the aviary at the Fuente Empedrada Eagle Center, home to irreplaceable specimens of the Iberian imperial eagle, Bonelli’s eagle, golden eagle, booted eagle, short-toed eagle, peregrine falcon, and black kite. The experience is rounded out by the interpretive exhibition “The Heart of the Eagle,” a journey through the ancient relationship between eagles and humans.
The center is located within the Special Protection Area (SPA) of the Llanuras de Oropesa, Lagartera, Calera, and Chozas, in the Campana de Oropesa region, and is wheelchair accessible. The tour of the aviary offers a perspective on the flatlands of the Campana de Oropesa, with the Sierra de Gredos as a backdrop. Come observe the birds of prey up close, learn about their “superpowers,” and get involved in their conservation.

The price includes
- Guided walking tour of the aviary, learning about raptor conservation efforts through video monitoring rooms, and discovering the techniques used for captive breeding and reintroduction into the wild.
- Guided tour of the Center’s interpretive exhibition.

Relevance
Visits to the aviary are subject to the conservation work carried out by the Aquila Foundation; therefore, it is recommended that you make a reservation in advance, and visits to the aviary are sometimes restricted during the breeding season. In such cases, visitors are invited to tour the interpretation center and observe some birds of prey in the eagles’ garden.
