Explore the Natural Park through Larraitz and Lizarrusti.

An emblematic mountainous environment in the Basque Country

Larraitz (Abaltzisketa) and Lizarrusti (Ataun) are the two gateways to this Park. We are in one of the most important mountainous areas in terms of extension, altitude, land use and natural values of the Basque Country, as well as being one of the most frequented. Framed between the regions of Goierri and Tolosaldea, it is a landscape reference of the first order, with the emblematic summit of Txindoki (Larrunarri).

The environment is ideal for getting to know a farmhouse up close, tasting Idiazabal cheese, pouring cider in a family winery, pedaling on a mountain bike, horseback riding and seeing megalithic monuments: some thirty dolmens, burial mounds, monoliths, cave and open-air sites, two cromlechs... Related to all this is the Barandiarán Museum in Ataun, which also offers information and interpretation services of the Park.

Large and small routes are marked out as mountaineering itineraries, and there are also pedestrian connections between the areas with recreational equipment. In the port of Lizarrusti, you can find another information center that is also a hostel and restaurant.

The Interpretation Centers of the Aralar Natural Park are:
