The Serranía de Cuenca is not only a Starlight destination but also a leader in national astro-tourism thanks to its ambitious project: the Serranía de Cuenca Astronomical Park. This initiative, which brings together 30 municipalities, not only certifies the extraordinary quality of its night sky but also creates a network of infrastructure and strategically placed observation points to facilitate stargazing. Furthermore, as a protected area, the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park guarantees an environment free of light pollution.

The network of lookout points spans 29 municipalities: Arcos de la Sierra, Beamud, Beteta, Cañamares, Cañizares, Carrascosa de la Sierra, Castillejo de la Sierra, Cuenca, Cueva del Hierro, Fresneda de la Sierra, Fuertescusa, Huélamo, Lagunaseca, La Frontera, Las Majadas, Mariana, Masegosa, Portilla, El Pozuelo, Poyatos, Ribatajada, Santa María del Val, Sotorribas, Tragacete, Uña, Valdemeca, Vega del Codorno, Villalba de la Sierra, and Zarzuela; all situated in prime locations within a premier destination. The observatories are committed to protecting their skies, as well as to developing astro-tourism and promoting science, without neglecting the promotion of local culture, since the explanatory content—available in several languages—also highlights various aspects of the region’s rich mountain heritage.
It is worth noting that, as a mountainous region, the Serranía de Cuenca experiences significant temperature fluctuations throughout the day. Even in warm summers, temperatures can drop sharply during nighttime observations, so we recommend always wearing appropriate clothing: long sleeves, a jacket, boots… since we must not forget that we are in the great outdoors.
