What You Need to Know Before You Come
How to get there. The Ricote Valley is about 40 km from the city of Murcia. The nearest airports are the Murcia Region International Airport (RMU, about 50 km) and the Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC, about 100 km), both of which offer direct international flights. From either airport, the most convenient option is to rent a car: there is no direct public transportation to the towns in the valley. The main access routes by road are the A-33 highway and the local roads that lead into the valley from Cieza or Archena.
Getting Around. Having your own vehicle is the best option for exploring the valley at your own pace. The distances between towns are short—about 30 km in total—which allows you to stop wherever you like. If you choose to rent an electric car, the valley already has charging stations in Villanueva del Río Segura (2 stations) and Ojós (1 station). The more active travelers can also explore the river route by bicycle.
Where to Stay. The destination has more than 50 rural lodging options spread across its four municipalities: rural houses, apartments, and a small hotel. The selection is small-scale and offers a personal touch, in keeping with the destination’s “slow” spirit. For a complete ecotourism experience, we recommend choosing accommodations affiliated with Soy Ecoturista, which are committed to environmental conservation and local development.
When to visit. Spring (flowering season, hiking) and fall (harvest, tranquility) are the recommended times to visit. Summer has its own charms in the late afternoon. Winter is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet.
