<p>The Citrus Tour is an invitation to discover the Ricote Valley through one of the crops that best represents its identity: citrus fruits. This pioneering experience is a benchmark for agritourism in the Region of Murcia and the Ricote Valley, bringing visitors closer to the area’s agricultural, scenic, and cultural heritage.<br><br>During a guided tour with Llanos Girón—owner of La Joya del Valle de Ricote and a fourth-generation member of the family connected to this estate—you’ll learn how agriculture has helped shape this unique landscape and why citrus farming remains a cornerstone of the valley’s culture, economy, and identity.<br><br>During this tour, you’ll discover the history of citrus fruits in the Ricote Valley and the close relationship between the Segura River, the traditional orchards, and the communities that have inhabited this area over the centuries.<br>In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about unique citrus varieties, many of which are traditional and, in some cases, little-known or at risk of disappearing. You’ll also discover the importance of preserving this valuable agricultural heritage for future generations.<br><br>The tour also offers the chance to learn about a form of agriculture based on respect for the land. Through practical examples, you’ll discover the sustainable techniques and practices used on the farm to promote biodiversity, preserve soil fertility, and maintain a balance between agricultural production and landscape conservation.<br><br>During the tour, we’ll stop next to trees bearing different varieties of citrus fruits, where you can pick and taste the fruit straight from the tree. This experience will allow you to appreciate the differences in flavor, aroma, and texture of each variety, while discovering interesting facts, traditions, and the secrets of their cultivation.<br><br>This activity is available only during the citrus season, from November through May. <p>In this sensory experience, you’ll immerse yourself in a traditional Murcian orchard through a tour designed to connect you with nature, the flavors, and the history of the region. <br><br>Surrounded by citrus trees, aromatic plants, and the sound of water, you’ll discover a living agricultural landscape that has been shaped over centuries by the Segura River and the knowledge of generations of farmers.<br>The experience, guided by Macu, begins with a moment of mindful relaxation among aromatic plants, inviting you to slow down and connect with the environment through your senses. <br><br>Next, you’ll take an ethnobotanical walk through the estate where you’ll learn about wildflowers, medicinal plants, butterflies, and other small inhabitants of the orchard, gaining an understanding of the relationship between biodiversity, agriculture, and the landscape.<br><br>During the tour, you’ll discover the history of the traditional irrigation system and the importance of the irrigation ditches and waterwheels that, since the Al-Andalus period, transformed this land into a veritable orchard. You’ll also learn how the sustainable use of water has been key to maintaining the fertility and vitality of the orchard over the centuries.<br><br>The experience continues among citrus and fruit trees, picking fresh fruit directly from the orchard to later enjoy in a small tasting of seasonal flavors. <br><br>The day concludes with the preparation and tasting of homemade lemonade and freshly squeezed juice, highlighting local produce and the direct connection between the land and the table.</p>

<p>On this tour, you’ll discover the Ricote Valley through its agricultural landscapes, its scents, and the history of a traditional orchard that has been linked to the Segura River for centuries. Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy the orange blossom season or the lemon harvest, two unique times of year that transform this region and fill it with color and fragrance. <br><br>The experience combines car rides and short walks through some of the valley’s most iconic spots, passing through Moorish orchards, viewpoints, and ancient irrigation systems that are still in use today.<br><br>Along the route, you’ll visit places like the Mirador del Trasvase, La Asomá, or the Salto de la Novia site, enjoying sweeping views of the valley’s agricultural and mountainous landscape.<br><br>One of the most special moments is the visit to the Huerta de Macu, a traditional citrus orchard where you’ll learn about the cultivation techniques and the historic irrigation system that has kept the orchard alive for generations. The tour continues among century-old lemon trees near the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Huertas and the historic center of Ojós, revealing the close relationship between culture, agriculture, and landscape.<br><br>The experience also highlights local cuisine, offering the chance to sample traditional products like the classic bizcocho borracho and round out the day with a picnic lunch or an optional meal at a local restaurant. Additionally, each participant will receive a kilo of lemons as a souvenir of this immersion in the orchards of the Ricote Valley.</p>

<p>On this interpretive tour through the Ricote Valley, you’ll explore one of the most unique landscapes in the Region of Murcia, where nature, history, and culture remain deeply intertwined. Through a guided walk through the Sierras de Ricote and La Navela Natura 2000 Protected Area, you’ll discover a landscape shaped by the river, the mountains, and traditional farmland.<br><br>During the tour, led by experts like Héctor, you’ll learn to identify the flora and fauna native to this Mediterranean ecosystem, observing species associated with the river, the cliffs, and the arid areas. Amid palm hearts, riparian vegetation, and rocky cliffs, you’ll spot birds such as herons, golden orioles, black wheatears, blue rock thrushes, peregrine falcons, or alpine swifts, depending on the time of year.<br>The experience also offers insight into the valley’s cultural landscape, helping you understand how humans have historically coexisted with the environment and water. <br><br>Along the route, you’ll visit iconic sites such as the Estrecho de El Solvente Historic Site, with its old mini-power plant still in operation, or the site of the ancient Ricote Castle, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, from which the valley was dominated during the Al-Andalus period.<br><br>Irrigation ditches, weirs, traditional waterwheels, and dry-stone walls line the route, showing how generations of inhabitants have shaped this unique agricultural and cultural landscape.<br><br>An experience to discover the Ricote Valley through its biodiversity, its history, and the close relationship between nature and culture.</p>
