Get to know the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara
In the north of the province of Guadalajara, bordering the provinces of Madrid, Segovia and Soria, just over an hour from the big city of Madrid, is the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara, a vast territory little known with a relief so steep that it is said that the wars always passed by.
Visitors to the Sierran Norte de Guadalajara Natural Park and the Sierra de Ayllón SAC and SPA can enjoy a wide variety of landscapes, the result of its rich geodiversity, the great climatic and altitudinal variety (more than 1,500 m difference in altitude between the highest and lowest elevations of the Park), the diversity of its plant formations and human activity.
The mountainous landscapes alternate with others in which the protagonists are the river valleys, the wide extensions of natural forests and scrublands, or the meadows where cattle graze freely. All this generates a set of great chromatic richness and strong contrasts, which are accentuated with the change of seasons.
The population density in the territory of the Natural Park is 2.3 inhabitants per km2, one of the lowest in Europe (about 2,700 inhabitants spread over 35 municipalities and 54 population centers). This has contributed to the high degree of naturalness and the excellent state of conservation of its natural resources. The conservation of the environmental values of the Park and the contribution to the sustainable development of its municipalities to fight against depopulation are the main objectives of the Natural Park.
