NETWORK OF VIEWPOINTS

The vastness of the landscape from above.

The vastness of the landscape from above.

This section is only suitable for people who don’t suffer from vertigo (or almost none). That’s because, on both sides of the canyon and along the banks of the Sil and Miño rivers, there’s a series of strategically placed viewpoints that will take your breath away. Some are perched on natural outcrops, while others have been strategically built so that simply leaning over the edge is a truly unforgettable experience. Together, they offer a wide variety of perspectives, ranging from sweeping views of the horizon with the water in the distance to dizzying panoramas hanging over the abyss. All are well-maintained so that none will leave you indifferent.

Among the viewpoints of the canyon and banks of the Sil are: Balcones de Madrid/Os Torgás, Cadeiras, Santiorxo, Castro/A Mirada Máxica/As Xariñas, Amandi, O Boqueiriño, Triguás, Cabezoás, A Cividade, As Arandeiras, mirador de la Columna, A Galeana, Vilouxe, Xirás, Chao de Madeiros, Pé do Home, Os Chancís, Pena do Pobre, Xabrega, Soutochao, Monte de O Outeiro, Pena do Castelo, Campo do Eirado, do Duque, Pena do Conde/The Ferry, The Stones of Matacás, The Valley of Fear, The Rocks of the Castle, Castro Caldelas, Pombal Rock, Moura Rock, The Chapel Rock, Watch Hill, Castle of Ares, The Conchada, Anguieiros, Bustelo Hill, Parada Castle and Chaira Hill; and the geoviewpoints of Ladeiro Rock, High Moa/As Fontes, Vilariño, Pómez, Louxoá, Campodola Penas Rubias and A Golada.

Among the viewpoints along the banks of the Miño River are: Líncora, Ponte Mourulle, Cabo do Mundo, Terra Branca, Sernande, Pena Cabezuda, Penedo do Garabullo, A Tragariza, A Grixoá, Alto do Coto, Monte Faro, Serra de Penas, Pesqueiras, A Buqueira, Santa Marta, Paradela, Alto da Picota – Os Peares, Cabodevila, or Penedo do Bico, Bazal, Cortes, and A Peroxa. Rounding out the list is the Serra de Penas astronomical viewpoint.

And the Bibei and Navea rivers, as well as other mountain areas, also have their own spots to enjoy the lesser-known Ribeira Sacra. These include the Chairas das Lamas viewpoint, Cabeza Grande de Manzaneda, Aciveiro, Ponte Navea, Curro da Mosenda, Tonxil, Pena Folenche, Fraga do Navea, Penas de Rome, Pontenovo, San Fiz, Alto do Cerengo, and the Glaciers viewpoint.

Nearly a hundred to choose from. Some are very easy to reach, while others require a bit of a hike, but none disappoint. It won’t be easy to choose, so you might as well try them all.
