You will feel like an adventurer walking dozens of routes in the surroundings of the National Park of Picos de Europa, the Regional Park Montaña de Riaño and Mampodre and the Biosphere Reserve of Los Argüellos. Practice an ecological sport exploring on foot a magical territory accompanied by your family, friends and/or pets.
 
Montaña de Riaño offers you an adventure full of landscapes and natural and cultural heritage, where the important thing is not where you arrive, but the experiences and sensations that you will discover along the way, which will undoubtedly make you reflect and make you aware of the importance of continuing to preserve these natural environments and the impact that people have on them.

The Picos de Europa National Park offers you a series of routes and trails that you will not be able to do without and you will need to reward your body and mind with its landscapes and panoramic views, time and time again.
 

Not to be missed:

 

- PR-PNPE 03: Cares Gorge.

 

The Cares Route or "Divine Gorge" is one of the best known trails in Spain. The path opens between the central and western massif of the Picos de Europa, running parallel to the Cares River towards the sea. At the beginning of the 20th century, one of the greatest civil engineering works of the time was built on a shepherd's path.

 

Discover the path and you will discover the least crowded, most natural and wild part of the Picos de Europa. Its botanical and geological uniqueness have earned it the nickname of "The Divine Gorge of the Cares".

- PR-PNPE 09: Soto de Sajambre-Vegabaño

 

This trail approaches the forests and meadows of Vegabaño, starting from the town of Soto de Sajambre, where its traditional architecture stands out.

 

The route also marks the access on foot to the Vegabaño refuge, where you can spend the night and do other mountain routes from there. Stroll along this path and discover the Barbas de San Jorge, a symbol of environmental quality.

The Regional Park Montaña de Riaño and Mampodre has dozens of routes and trails full of surprises and emotions that will leave you impressed by its landscapes and biodiversity. You will perceive a natural and wild world, much closer than you thought.

Not to be missed:

 

- PR-LE 24: San Glorio Pass

 

This route starts on the outskirts of Llánaves de la Reina, at the precise place where a dirt track ascends along the edge of a pine forest to the top of San Glorio.

 

The valleys of Lechada and Naranco constitute a biological corridor of exceptional importance for the conservation of the last brown bears in the eastern core of the Cantabrian Mountain Range. Towards the month of May, the flowering of the capilote takes place, a protected species that has become a true symbol of the abandonment and neglect suffered by the region of Riaño since it was flooded by the waters of the Riaño reservoir.

- PR-LE 35: Corral de los lobos (Corral of the wolves)

 

From the town of Prioro and crossing the river Cea we head through a mountain of large oak trees where shepherds traditionally carried their sheepfolds following the marks of the GR-1. Descending to the pass of Corral de Los Lobos, where you can see a chorco like those used in the past.

 

A simple route, easy to walk where we can discover a transhumant and livestock past in a protected natural and wild environment.

SL-LE 7: Path of the Leonese Mythology

 

Lover of the most mysterious and unknown adventures this route is for you, so prepare your backpack to fill it with a lot of knowledge with which you will learn how not to put the Reñuberu in a bad mood, to tackle the mischief and misdeeds of Trasgu or how to safely face the passage of the Güeste de Ánimas.

 

If you are not familiar with any of the above names, you are in luck because there is a magical place, within the Regional Park Montaña de Riaño and Mampodre, called the Path of Leonese Mythology, where beech, oak and hazelnut trees are the abode of the Beings of Leonese Mythology who are waiting to meet you.
