Whether you are looking for a quiet getaway in nature or an exciting outdoor adventure, the Armañón Natural Park awaits you with open arms to offer you an unforgettable hiking experience in the heart of the Basque Country. Within the network of routes of the Park, we propose these three options:
The tour begins and ends in the picturesque rural center of El Suceso, where we find the monument to the Virgen del Buen Suceso, the church and a bullfighting ring, as well as an extensive recreational area.
We head towards Armañón. At the Dolmen de La Lama, under the summit, we turn left to start descending, crossing the intricate holm oak forest that opens up to become a pasture. The way back is done with almost no slopes in the shade of conifers and American oak plantations.
This circular route allows us to observe the karst formations, the imposing Ordunte mountains and the magnificent views of the Carranza Valley. A large part of the route takes place around the former facilities of the Dolomitas del Norte factory.
The current Parketxea was the place where, once the dolomite was extracted in the old Pozalagua quarry, it was crushed and transported by an aerial tramway system to the factory located in the district of Ambasaguas. This mineral was used to make a refractory material that was later transported to Altos Hornos de Bizkaia.
It is a circular mountain route, which starts in the urban center of Trucíos and takes us to two of the most emblematic peaks of the Armañón Natural Park: the Jorrios and Armañón.
Along this route, of just over 13 km, we will walk along old shepherds' and smugglers' paths, we will cross magical places such as the holm oak forest and the karst of the Jorrios and we will contemplate palaces, casastorre, old mills...
