The Romans crossed the Ambroz 2. Today we have the beautiful Vía Verde de la Plata (Silver Greenway), which runs 64 kilometers through the forest and mountains on the way to Plasencia on the route of an old railroad of the nineteenth century dotted with tunnels, bridges, ravines and gorges, and with a smooth route perfect for families and bicycles, or to walk. It is a perfect proposal to do during the day, sheltered by the freshness of the forest.
In this forest, the protected landscape Monte Castañar Gallego is also perfect for routes with a nature guide that will help you discover special places, orchids endemic to the area, or unique fauna and birds, such as birds of prey in the mountains or cranes and black storks in the pasture.
We have more than 200 kilometers of markedtrails through the forest, mountains and pastures. Each one of them is perfect for a different time of the year: the trails through the lower part of the valley that go through the dehesas are perfect for winter, spring and autumn. Those through the forests and mountains are full of water and life in spring, cool and shady in summer, and full of magic and color in summer. Free route maps are available at tourist offices in English and Spanish.
But the night is also a special time in the Ambroz Valley, as it is one of the best places in Spain to enjoy the stars, due to its low light pollution. We also have specialized companies that can organize an astronomical observation.
Also the night offers the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the forest, its smells, or the sighting of bats, with the help of a nature guide.
