A Natural and Cultural Paradise
Located near the picturesque town of Zarautz, Pagoeta Natural Park invites you to explore a humanized landscape of countryside and hamlets, with its heart in the majestic Mount Pagoeta, rising above the charming rural towns of Aia and Laurgain (Gipuzkoa). It owes its name to Mount Pagoeta, 678 m high, which is part of the mountain range of the coast of Guipuzkoa.
In Pagoeta Natural Park, nature and history merge to offer you a unique experience. The Parketxe Iturraran, located in a 15th century farmhouse, houses a nature school and a visitor center. Here, you can enjoy a fascinating ethnographic exhibition on farmhouse life and stroll through an impressive botanical garden.
The park is home to the Agorregi forge, which dates back to the 15th century, and the refrigerators (elurzuloak), which will show you ancient cold preservation techniques. For history lovers, Pagoeta holds important prehistoric traces, such as dolmens (Otagain, Olarteta, Zaingo), burial mounds (Muzin, Arreta) and cave sites (Erratia and Amalda in the Alzoralas valley).
Admire the unique beauty of native livestock breeds such as the betizu cow and the pottoka horse, which add a special touch to your visit.
The northern slope of the park is covered with trees from reforestation carried out since 1956. Under this leafy canopy, it is very common to find the yew tree, which adds a special charm to the undergrowth.
Come and let yourself be carried away by the magic of Pagoeta Natural Park, a place where nature and history come together to offer you an unforgettable experience.
