We are committed to the environment and work towards sustainable tourism.
That is why we are taking measures in this direction. More information
At Bodega Ribada, we are committed to preserving biodiversity and supporting local development in the Ribeira Sacra.
We work in the Chantada subzone, where heroic viticulture is part of the landscape and our understanding of wine. Our tours offer a close-up look at the terraced vineyards, native grape varieties, and the manual labor that keeps this tradition alive.
1. Heroic viticulture and cultural landscape
We maintain the terraced vineyards and traditional stone walls, helping to preserve the cultural landscape of the Ribeira Sacra.
We work by hand, without mechanization in the vineyard, which reinforces the value of a crop linked to the land and its historical ways of life.
2. Interpretation and guided tour
The tour is led by us, as we explain on-site the heroic viticulture, the historic terraces, the native grape varieties, and the traditional architecture of the winery.
We also share with our visitors the climate of the Miño Canyon, the changing use of the vineyards, and the wine-making processes.
3. Lower Environmental Impact
We use solar panels, LED bulbs, and insulated windows, and we do not use herbicides or chemicals in the vineyard. We are sustainable
In addition, we manage special waste through the Chantada City Council’s recycling center and serve local products without plastic.
4. Local products and regional development
At our tastings, we offer locally sourced products, such as cheeses, chestnut cream, jams and honey, fruits, and traditional cookies, and we use wooden serving boards crafted by an association of people with disabilities in Chantada (ASDEME).
We are members of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Route and the Ribeira Sacra Designation of Origin; we recommend accommodations, boat trips on the Miño River, and visits to local cheese shops, thereby supporting the local economy.

The tour begins outside the winery to provide some context about where we are. We’ll explain what the Ribeira Sacra is, its essence, its heritage, its natural and cultural values, the different wine varieties, why traditional wineries have single-sloped roofs, the importance of climate and sunlight for the vineyards, and the issue of land-use changes and the abandonment of vineyards in the area. Outside the winery, the vineyard is also explained.
Then we go inside the winery, where the wine-making processes and the winery’s materials are explained: those used in the past and those used today.
The activity concludes with a tasting: a selection of 6 wines is presented, and 2–3 varieties are tasted. The tasting includes a selection of the best local zero-mile products: cheeses from the Airas Moniz cheese factory (awarded nationally in consecutive years, including 2026), chestnut cream produced in Chantada (Castañas Naiciña), Mariñeiras cookies, and “Da Josefa” tetilla cheese (a national award winner), as well as a selection of other Galician cheeses such as San Simon da Costa, Cebreiro, and Galmesán. The tasting can take place either indoors or outdoors.
Bodega Ribada was founded in 2005 based on a family tradition spanning several generations; it is a small stone winery (single-story) that oversees the vineyard located at its feet in the parish of San Fiz (Chantada). It is less than 5 minutes from the village of Belesar, allowing visitors to combine their visit with Zodiac boat tours on the Miño River, sections of the Winter Way to Santiago, the Roman road, or the rural Romanesque architecture of the surrounding area (12th–13th centuries). It is 7 minutes from the town of Chantada.
