Trails and paths

The choice will not be easy, because this territory has more than 600 kilometers of trails that run along its vast expanse and the variety of landscapes in this area.

Whether through a centenary chestnut grove, through the majestic pastures, accompanying the meandering of a river through the riparian forest, and from family trails to challenging hikes for the more daring, walking or with the help of a sustainable means of transport, there are several options to connect with nature.

Birds reign in the mountain sky

In the sea of forests of southwestern Spain, where this Natural Park is located, the great silhouettes of the skies of Europe reign. This is the ideal habitat for the reproduction of the largest bird on the European continent, the Black Vulture, which nests in these cork oak forests and coexists with traditional human activities, such as the raising of the Iberian pig and the uncorking of the cork.

Along with it, the Griffon Vulture and the Egyptian Vulture, as well as other birds of prey, such as the Golden Eagle and the endangered Red Kite, share territory with smaller species, such as the kingfisher.

Mushrooms: an autumn and spring treasure

Among the many riches that contains the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche as a destination for ecotourism, especially highlights the mycological. Whether for the enjoyment of the collecting activity, for later tasting, or for scientific study, this space is one of the places with the greatest diversity of species of mushrooms throughout Europe have been counted more than 500 varieties.

Its exuberant vegetation makes it possible that chestnut groves, pastures and fields give this precious fruit in two main seasons: autumn, with amanita caesarea and boletus edulis as main representatives, and spring, with amanita ponderosa and morchela esculenta as queens.

Going into the mountain forests to collect them with the help of expert guides in mycology, learning how to cook them or tasting them in one of the magnificent restaurants of the territory, are very popular activities.
