Entering the Picos de Europa: the Fuente Dé cable car, the most accessible gateway to the high mountains.

It allows access to the high mountain and is a starting point for the most classic mountaineering routes of the Picos de Europa. It is a stony world where you can observe the wallcreeper, the red-billed choughs or the agile chamois. From the cable viewpoint you have a spectacular view of the beech and oak forests of the national park, and the highest peaks of the Cantabrian mountain range. It is the starting point of the most emblematic trails and has a story to tell: the idea came from the cable that brought down the blende from the Picos to the meadow of Fuente Dé, and from there it went out through the Deva to the Cantabrian ports to the United Kingdom.

With the ecotourism route to the Puertos de Pineda you will enjoy an ecotourism experience that combines nature observation, geology, landscapes and ethnography. It is a 4x4 route guided by a specialist in natural heritage. The Pista de Barrio (in Vega de Liébana) takes you to the Puertos de Pineda, crossing Atlantic forests, interpreting the landscapes, the unique architecture, the traditional uses and the glacial remains of the Cantabrian mountain range.

The high mountain pastures by the hand of the shepherds

Shepherd for a day in Bejes: Liébana is one of the few places where you can get to know a living livestock culture. The guided tour shows the daily work of a shepherd accompanying his flock of sheep. You can taste the cheeses and learn about the livestock culture of the Picos de Europa.
