Wild North

Soaring in the gentle midday breeze, we follow the flight of the bearded vulture through the natural paradises of the north. Two weeks of unforgettable experiences in the Wild North. We will travel through the most impressive landscapes of the mountain range, through steep valleys, endless forests and crystalline lakes. What will we see? Travelers are accompanied by a specialist guide, with extensive knowledge of birds, butterflies and flora. We will explore the biodiversity of the mountain, subalpine and alpine regions of the Cordillera, visiting the natural park Dunas de Liencres and Costa Quebrada, Liébana, Picos de Europa national park, Ponga natural park and Somiedo natural park. Brown bear, bearded vulture, wallcreeper, red rock thrush, butterflies, orchids... - Birds. Our route runs under the flight of the bearded vulture, which we will get to know in depth through its recovery plan with the FCQ. But the peaks and valleys through which it flies are home to more than a hundred species of birds, among which we can find the wallcreeper, the black woodpecker, the medium-sized woodpecker, the red-breasted woodpecker or the blue-breasted woodpecker. - Butterflies. With their spectacular colors, butterflies are a fundamental part of the ecosystems we will visit. The Picos de Europa are a "hot-spot" of lepidopteran biodiversity, counting within the National Park with more than 130 species of diurnal butterflies, being this number higher if we include the environment of the Park. We will be accompanied by fluttering species such as the apollo (Parnassius apollo), antbirds (Phengaris nausithous, Ph. arion) or the lopinga (Lopinga achine) - Cantabrian brown bear. On the way we will learn about the happy story of the recovery of the bear in our mountains. Through its conservation program, with the help of the FOP, we will learn all about this mammal, which we will try to see in its natural environment. And through its lands we will have the company of many other species such as the wild cat, the chamois, the deer, as well as the traces of multiple species such as the marten, the genet or the badger. - Flora. The richness of the landscapes of our trip is accompanied by a great diversity of flora. More than 50 species of orchids, with wonders such as Dactylorhiza insularis, alpine and subalpine flora (Pulsatilla rubra, Gentiana sp...), in addition to the lush forests, valleys and mountain meadows. We will enjoy all the natural wonders that the road offers us, in the framework of the most spectacular landscapes of the Wild North. An unforgettable journey through the natural spaces of the Cantabrian Mountains in which we will discover the Natural Park of the dunes of Liencres and Costa Quebrada, Liébana, the National Park of Picos de Europa on its three sides (Fuen-te Dé, Covadonga and Valdeón-Sajambre), the Natural Park of Ponga, the Ribadesella estuary reserve and the Natural Park of Somiedo.
