Our ecotourism commitment:

The Garajonay Experience: Laboratory of Evolution takes place entirely within Garajonay National Park, a protected area designated a World Heritage Site for its exceptional laurel forest. Our commitment to ecotourism is based on connecting visitors with the natural and cultural values of the region through rigorous interpretation, responsible behavior, and direct benefits for conservation and the local community.

- Interpretation of natural heritage in a protected area The activity is led by a local specialist in geology, biodiversity, and La Gomera culture, who explains the ecological processes, the evolutionary history of the laurel forest, and the relationship between climate, landscape, and endemic species. We foster a deep understanding of the forest as a relict ecosystem and a natural laboratory of evolution, helping visitors recognize its fragility and universal value.

- Minimizing Impacts and Promoting Best Practices The tour follows official trails within the National Park, avoiding sensitive areas and adjusting the group’s pace to reduce erosion, noise, and disturbance to wildlife. We promote the “leave no trace” philosophy, respect for vegetation, responsible waste management, and the use of small groups (max. 8 people) to reduce pressure on the environment. In addition, the use of unnecessary vehicles is avoided, and access via public transportation or strategic meeting points is encouraged.

- Contribution to Conservation and Support for Local Development The experience strengthens the link between tourism and conservation through messages that encourage shared responsibility: caring for the forest, respecting park regulations, and understanding the role of the laurel forest in the island’s water and climate regulation. The activity is designed and led by a local professional, creating direct employment in the region and boosting the island’s economy. Furthermore, conservation projects are promoted, and visitors are encouraged to support local initiatives related to biodiversity and cultural heritage.

This commitment ensures that the experience is not merely an interpretive walk, but a genuine ecotourism activity that contributes to the protection of Garajonay National Park, the well-being of the community, and a more conscious and respectful relationship with the region.

Discover a relict forest that reveals millions of years of natural history

An interpretive tour through the heart of Garajonay National Park to discover the laurisilva, a forest unique in the world that serves as a true laboratory of evolution. Following an accessible trail and accompanied by a guide specializing in geology, biodiversity, and local culture, you’ll learn about the natural history of the Canary Islands, the formation of their landscapes, and the extraordinary adaptation of their endemic species.

During the walk, we’ll explore the humidity, fog, and trade winds that give life to this relict ecosystem—a survivor of the ancient subtropical forests that once covered Europe and North Africa millions of years ago. We’ll also visit the Los Roques Natural Monument to understand the island’s volcanic origins and the relationship between geology, climate, and biodiversity.

An ideal experience for those who wish to gain a deep understanding of the region and connect with the natural essence of La Gomera.
