Located in the southeast of the province of Avila, in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos, the Iruelas Valley is one of the most fascinating and best preserved natural areas of Castilla y Leon. This valley is known for hosting one of the largest colonies of black vultures (Aegypius monachus) in Europe, a breathtaking spectacle when these birds glide over the peaks. It is also home to emblematic species such as: Iberian imperial eagle (in danger of extinction), the black stork, otters in its rivers and deer and roe deer, which can be observed at dawn. In autumn, the valley is filled with magic with the rutting, the mating ritual of the deer, whose echoes resound among the mountains. To explore the valley, there are several well-marked routes such as the Lanchas trail: A 10 km (round trip) that leads to a viewpoint overlooking the vultures' nest. El camino del Brezal: It goes through rockrose and pine forests until it reaches old charcoal pits. La Ruta al Pico del Casquerazo: For the more adventurous, with spectacular panoramic views of Gredos. All this is explained in the section "Offer of trails". Weather and Ideal Time to Visit - Spring and autumn: Mild temperatures and landscapes at their best (wild flowers or ochre tones).
- Summer: Ideal for bathing in the reservoir, although with more affluence.
- Winter: The peaks are dyed snow, creating a magical atmosphere (some routes may be closed). How to get there? From Avila capital, take the N-403 towards El Barraco (about 40 km). From Madrid, it is approximately 1h 30 min by the AP-6 and AV-941.There are nearby emblematic villages such as El Barraco (gateway to the valley) and El Tiemblo, where the famous Toros de Guisando are located.
