At Caramucel Naturaleza e Historia, we work to preserve, interpret, and promote the natural, historical, and ethnographic heritage of rural areas, fostering a genuine connection between people and the land. Our commitment stems from our deep roots in the Ricote Valley and our desire to share its landscapes, traditions, and ways of life through a respectful, participatory, and educational approach.
- We develop cultural, ethnographic, and environmental education activities that highlight the traditional knowledge and local identity of the Ricote Valley.
- We collaborate with local stakeholders and residents to revitalize the region and preserve its heritage.
- We participate in biodiversity conservation and monitoring projects, such as the Carabo Ricote Valley project, which focuses on monitoring and protecting nocturnal forest birds through the installation of nest boxes and participatory censuses.
- We promote citizen participation and environmental volunteering as tools for raising awareness and conserving the environment.
- We perform maintenance and upkeep of traditional trails, such as the Ricote Castle Trail, contributing to the conservation and responsible use of the region’s historic paths.
- Our team has specialized training in heritage interpretation, environmental education, and outdoor sports activities, ensuring safe, educational experiences that connect people with the natural environment.

On this interpretive tour through the Ricote Valley, you’ll explore one of the most unique landscapes in the Region of Murcia, where nature, history, and culture remain deeply intertwined. Through a guided walk through the Sierras de Ricote and La Navela Natura 2000 Protected Area, you’ll discover a landscape shaped by the river, the mountains, and traditional farmland.
During the tour, led by experts like Héctor, you’ll learn to identify the flora and fauna native to this Mediterranean ecosystem, observing species associated with the river, the cliffs, and the arid areas. Amid palm hearts, riparian vegetation, and rocky cliffs, you’ll spot birds such as herons, golden orioles, black wheatears, blue rock thrushes, peregrine falcons, or alpine swifts, depending on the time of year.
The experience also offers insight into the valley’s cultural landscape, helping you understand how humans have historically coexisted with the environment and water.
Along the route, you’ll visit iconic sites such as the Estrecho de El Solvente Historic Site, with its old mini-power plant still in operation, or the site of the ancient Ricote Castle, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, from which the valley was dominated during the Al-Andalus period.
Irrigation ditches, weirs, traditional waterwheels, and dry-stone walls line the route, showing how generations of inhabitants have shaped this unique agricultural and cultural landscape.
An experience to discover the Ricote Valley through its biodiversity, its history, and the close relationship between nature and culture.
