HIGH DIFFICULTY TRAILS

Routes of more advanced difficulty with magnificent views.

Bohoyo Gorge

It is a path steeped in history. It was the traditional path used by shepherds, hunters and early mountaineers to access the Cinco Lagunas, the Almanzor peak, the Galana and even the Laguna Grande. This route goes through the Bohoyo Gorge, one of the most beautiful gorges of the Sierra de Gredos. The vegetation changes along the route, from the undergrowth of the lower part, heaths, broom to reach the high meadows and finally the granite crags, where we can find some rock plants, mosses and lichens.

Port of Candeleda

The Vereda del Puerto de Candelada is a transhumance livestock trail that was used to raise cattle in search of fresh summer pastures on the northern slopes of Gredos.

The trail begins in the village of Candeleda, next to the convent of the Conceptionist sisters, in the northern part of the village and goes up a track between terraces and farms until it turns off and becomes a path between oaks and pines. Leaving behind the source of the Sauce or Zauce, we descend towards the Garganta de Santa Maria, with its meadows, junipers and lush forests of oak, chestnut and pine trees, which accompanies us to La Puente el Puerto, in the Garganta Lóbrega. The route overlooks the Garganta Blanca. The trail ends at the Puerto de Candeleda.
