In the heart of the Gredos Regional Park is La Casa del Altozano, a starlight accommodation, that is, specially designed for night sky observation enthusiasts. In fact, in 2020 it received the prestigious international award, Best Starlight Accommodation awarded by the Starlight Foundation.
Located in the municipality of Navarredonda de Gredos, this rural house, specialized in astro-tourism, has 3 double rooms with private bathroom and TV in each one, as well as great views of the mountains, central heating, fireplace (stove), free wifi (fiber) and garden with barbecue. It can accommodate up to 6 people, 8 with extra bed, and is for full rental but in certain seasons of the year can be rented by rooms.
In the garden it has its own astronomical observatory, Polaris, and guests, if they wish, can hire an observation session with an accredited monitor.
The Casa del Altozano has a library, part of it on astronomy, astrophotographs and a carefully decorated starry decoration that creates a magical and cozy atmosphere for guests.
The lodging, committed to the protection of the night sky, offers, through different channels, abundant information about activities and natural and cultural resources of the area. In September 2023 it received a CETS (European Charter for Sustainable Tourism) award for "Communicating the values of my park and my company" and in 2022 the La Posada award for the Best Business Project in Avila.
There are special places to contemplate the starry sky and one of them is the Sierra de Gredos, in Ávila, certified as a Starlight Reserve, one of the 19 in Spain and the only one in Castilla y Léon.
Booking conditions
If a reservation is cancelled, depending on how far in advance, there will be the following charges:
With 10 days notice the deposit is returned in full, as long as it is not for Christmas or summer, dates in which the deposit is not returned because the reservations are made with plenty of time.
In those dates the deposit is returned if 1 month and a half before the entrance date.
One week before, the deposit is not returned. However, in La Casa del Altozano we try that you do not lose the signal so that only in the case that is reoccupied by other customer those same dates on which the reservation was held we keep the signal paid to stay at another time.
Reduction of the stay: when you are already enjoying the stay if the client decides to leave before the deposit is not refunded .
If the reservation includes an astronomical observation but due to inclement weather it could not be done, it could be replaced by a theoretical session.
